GoDaddy DNS Setup Guide

Last Updated: Jun 28, 2011 04:44PM EDT
This guide provides directions for setting up your domain name (purchased through GoDaddy) to direct visitors to your grocery website.

You will be creating a CNAME record for your domain name. A CNAME record is an entry within the Domain Name System (DNS) that tells browsers where to send requests for your website.

Please Note: Once you follow the steps below your customers will be directed to our web servers when they visit your domain name, so be sure your website is setup and ready before you proceed.

Directions

1. Visit the GoDaddy DNS manager by visiting https://dns.godaddy.com
2. Login
3. Click the Edit Zone link under the domain name you want to use.
4. In the A (Host) section, find the record with @ in the Host field.
5. Click on the IP address in the Points To field to edit it.
   a. For IGA retailers enter: 216.168.61.19

6. In the CNAME (Alias) section. If a host record for www exists skip to #8; if not click Quick Add.
7. In the Host field, enter www.
8. In the Points To field, copy and paste the following host name: iga.grocerywebsite.com (exactly this value)
9. At the top or the bottom of the page, click the Save Zone File button.

10. Click OK in the pop-up.

Finished!

Your settings should look something like this:

You can ignore any other entries in the CNAME area that were on the domain.   Default GoDaddy settings have several more CNAME entries than listed in this example screenshot.  You do not need to delete all those other CNAME entries.  Just make sure your www entry looks like the example.

It can take up to 24 hours for your changes to propagate through the internet, but with GoDaddy it's usually about an hour.
